Porcelain Veneer FAQs
Serving St. Paul, Minneapolis, Woodbuy and the surrounding areas
Q: What conditions do porcelain veneers correct?
A: Porcelain veneers can:
-
Repair teeth with chips or worn surfaces
-
Correct problems with misshapen teeth
-
Replace discolored, stained fillings
-
Brighten the smiles of those with severely discolored teeth
In some cases, they can be an alternative for orthodontics, filling gaps between teeth and enhancing the alignment of the teeth
Q: How long do porcelain veneers last?
A: Like your natural teeth, porcelain veneers may not last forever. However, they are a good, long-term solution for helping you achieve your dreams for a more beautiful smile.
Q: Will the porcelain veneers be the same color as my teeth?
A: Your veneers will be made to the color and hue that you and your cosmetic dentist decide you would like.
Q: What if the porcelain veneers fall off?
A: Dr. Nippoldt will bond your porcelain veneers with great care and attention. Many of his patients have had their porcelain veneers for longer than 10 years because they were well-fitted and well-bonded.
Q: How can I tell if I'm a good candidate for porcelain veneers?
A: Only your cosmetic dentist can decide that question. A complete dental examination is needed first because everyone has somewhat different dental conditions. Dr. Nippoldt would be able to suggest other procedures if porcelain veneers are not the best option for you.
Q: Can I get my old porcelain veneers re-done?
A:Yes. Each case is different, so contact Dr. Nippoldt for a personal dental assessment.
Q: How are porcelain veneers done?
A:The first step is an initial examination. At the examination, your cosmetic dentist will evaluate your dental conditions and take the necessary dental films and records.
This is your opportunity for you to explain what you would like to have fixed or changed. Your dental health-care provider will let you know if that is possible, and how it can best be accomplished.
At the first clinical appointment, the dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel that is about the thickness of your fingernail from the front of the teeth to be veneered. Models will be taken of the carefully prepared teeth, and you will go home wearing beautifully prepared, tooth-colored temporaries.
Dr. Nippoldt will send your models, along with detailed instructions, to the laboratory where your individually-designed veneers will be fabricated to the dentist's specifications by highly-trained ceramic artists.
Approximately two weeks after your first clinical appointment, you will be seen again at the dental office. Your beautiful veneers will be bonded on your natural teeth. Before they are permanently bonded, you will have the opportunity to approve the shape, color and size of the veneers so that you are guaranteed to love your smile!
